Painting Workshop

Visit www.berlindrawingroom.com for current workshop dates. Thank you!

This workshop is an introduction to the expressive and versatile medium of painting.

We start with basic color theory, learning how to mix colors and achieve a unified color world. Through exercises designed to show the difference between hue and value, or the relationship between complimentary colors, we sharpen our understanding of how colors interact and how to mix paint.

We learn step by step how to approach making a painting, exploring techniques for layering and using brushstrokes to create form and space.

The focus of the workshop is on representational painting from direct observation, such as from a still-life.  But there are still opportunities to explore individual style and personal expression. For example, in one class we create painting collages incorporating the students own photographs.

Non-toxic acrylic paint will be supplied.

Schedule: Tuesdays 6-9 pm
                   - Field Trip: Saturday, 12-2pm

  1. This is the third course I have taken with Mira as a teacher. And I am one of those also taking the mixed media classes. So it is quite obvious for me to recommend this course to anybody who wants to get closer to his creative side. I really enjoy Mira´s approach which is really dinamic and fluid, you won´t definitely get bored here. If you just feel like "trying", or if you would like to develop your skills and views more, this is the right course for you.

  2. This was the first course I took with Mira (me beeing an absolute beginner) and I loved each and every class. I learned so much about the world of colours from her! She had a very well chosen topic for each class, so that by the end of the workshop, we had covered a variety of different areas. I actually learned to paint things that I never would have dreamt of being able to master. Mira is a very approachable teacher, always friendly and with a big heart for her students! I enjoyed the class so much, that I also signed up for the mixed media workshop.

  3. This was my second course with Mira (I also took the fall drawing workshop) and I'm now taking the mixed-media workshop. This workshop was so much fun and I highly recommend it to anyone who loves to paint regardless of skills. In this workshop you will learn among other things how to mix and experiment with different colours and styles of painting. The most fun for me was just letting go and painting with crazy colours and shapes, and I couldn't believe how great it turned out! Mira is a great teacher who guides you throughout your painting with advice and great ideas. Since this workshop I honestly can't stop painting every free minute I have!
